Logistics Planning
Pet Product Shipping Inputs to Confirm Before Quotation
Prepare destination, pack, case, pallet, quantity, Incoterm, loading, and forwarder inputs before comparing pet product shipping assumptions.

Direct answer
A useful shipping discussion starts with the destination, product and packaging basis, case configuration, quantity, pallet or floor-loading preference, requested trade-rule basis, and forwarder handoff. Freight assumptions are not comparable when suppliers quote different pack, loading, risk, cost, or delivery points.
Pet litter, bedding, pee pads, and snacks can create different weight, volume, handling, packaging, and document questions. The supplier can provide shipment inputs for the quoted goods, while the buyer and appointed logistics parties remain responsible for validating the intended route and destination requirements.
Who this guide is for
- Importers preparing first freight discussions
- Procurement teams comparing export quotations
- Retail and distribution teams checking case and pallet handling
Shipping inputs that should match across quotations
Use this as a handoff between the buyer, supplier, and appointed logistics parties.
| Input | Buyer should state | Supplier should return | External confirmation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Destination | Country plus port, city, warehouse, or named point | Quoted delivery or handoff point | Forwarder and importer |
| Pack / case | Net content, pack dimensions, units per case | Confirmed dimensions and gross-weight basis | Warehouse or retail operations |
| Loading | Pallet preference, handling limits, floor-load question | Loading assumption and available reference | Forwarder / warehouse |
| Quantity | SKU allocation and trial or repeat scope | Shipment basis used in quotation | Procurement / planning |
| Trade rule | Preferred Incoterm rule and named place for discussion | Rule, named point, included scope, exclusions | Qualified trade / logistics adviser |
| Timing | Required decision and handoff window | Goods-ready basis and dependencies | Carrier / forwarder |
Connect the retail pack to the transport unit
Net content, pack dimensions, case count, outer-pack strength, pallet configuration, and handling limits should be discussed as one chain. A change to the bag or case can change the shipment basis even when the product is unchanged.
Ask what dimensions and weights are confirmed, estimated, or dependent on the final sample and packaging proof. Keep assumptions visible in the quotation.
Name the trade rule and the place
An Incoterm label without its named place and agreed version is incomplete. Ask what cost, risk, clearance, document, loading, and carrier responsibilities are included or excluded for the proposed rule.
Incoterms rules do not replace the complete sales, freight, insurance, customs, or payment arrangements. Use the official ICC material and appropriate advisers when assigning obligations.
- Incoterm rule
- Named place or port
- Version
- Included costs
- Risk handoff
- Clearance and document responsibilities
Hand the same data to the forwarder
Provide the forwarder with the product description, pack and case basis, quantity, destination, loading assumption, goods-ready estimate, and document questions. A freight estimate built on a different configuration cannot validate the supplier quotation.
For container packing and securing questions, use route-appropriate professional advice. The CTU Code is a non-mandatory global code of practice and should be applied by competent parties within the actual transport plan.
Practical takeaway
Shipping assumptions become comparable when every party uses the same goods, pack, quantity, named point, and responsibility basis—and when external logistics decisions have a named owner.
